Who is Sergio Fernandez?
As a young ceheginero great lover of basketball, a very humble coach I try to enjoy one of my passions is to work in this world of basketball.
I am a person who attempted to go through life always and without fail towards anyone, because I think it is very important in both these areas as elsewhere, people know that if you give a word to comply, and if you ask helps you to be there.
What is your sports career and how you decide for basketball?
The truth is that I came to the sport by chance when I was 11 I was the kid that wants to be a footballer, but it was very bad, so one day I had the opportunity to participate in a practice match basketball in the courtyard of my school and I loved it so much I decided to sign a local sports school basketball and was serving stages to play for 14 seasons in a federated, first in the CB Cehegín, then Caravaca, and finally, the bulk of my career as a player in the CB Begastri.
As a player I got to play in National Division 1 st, but neither have I been an exceptional player, I have had good seasons, but nothing else, a player of the bunch.
For many years I have combined to be a player to be a coach for seven seasons I coached categories Begastri CB training, child training, Cadets and Juniors, until 3 seasons ago I accepted the challenge of training the club's senior team in My second season leading the team won promotion to League EBA, and this season we finished second in the regular season, so I think it is acceptable path for the moment I'm drawing.
Quite an experience to participate in EBA league right?
For me it was a big change, a very important progress, the work is much more thorough in-depth analysis you need opponents every week, studying their matches scoutings prepare, prepare training depending on the opponent, but not forgotten your own needs, or status as part of the season when you are, it has been exciting getting to know these secrets progress associated with this league.
The players are not professionals, but the technical work closely resembles that of the top leagues, there is a big jump with what we knew before.
You are what you wanted in the sport or would like to go higher?
Being in this club has enabled me to reach a level they never dreamed of, to know a different basketball that I played, but I have a feeling I'm starting something that is not the goal.
The truth is that you never know what opportunities I will happen in this world of basketball, but I found that I enjoy being in the higher leagues, I like working with high quality raw material, and who is not with people who have a very large base of basketball.
I would go as high as possible, but you never know how it will evolve a path, the moment I'm in the club with the highest growth in the Region of Murcia, as head coach the second team in the region, after the CB Murcia and I think it is too much for my brief training.
How would you rate your first year in the competition?
I think in many ways the beginning I had a strong clash between what I thought was a team and what are the teams at these levels of demand, I have learned more than ever, I have become more consistent and more mature, I think I'ma coach far more prepared than it was in the season opener.
But despite going through all this process of learning progress and I say, the team has been up all year, which has really helped my work as both of my players, you know that all victories and good atmosphere is better than.
And the team?
They are the ones who really deserve the merit of this great season that the team has signed.
The players have maintained a very high level of self are a close knit group who have managed to live up to the club they represent, which have given a lesson in professionalism in every way, in the sporting, economic and in humans.
I think I should not give me flowers that are not mine, the board last summer designing a real great team, with players of proven quality, and by having a template as much quality offset and everything was much easier, mine and acclimation the club to the league, and the harmony between all parts of this union, coaches, team and club.
Are you a maverick and demanding with you and your pupils?
Having arrived so early at this level has made me an inferiority complex sometimes even with my own players, since each has fought very hard to be in EBA league or higher, and the sense I had is that I I had not had to fight much, just be lucky enough to join the right club.
That is why I initially cost to be picky with my players, I was not on paper, but gradually this is changing, they give you confidence the players themselves, and you're feeling increasingly strong within the group.
Telling you this because, to be honest, for much of the season I've been being more demanding of myself that with my players, and I think they should have all the same requirement, the maximum.
I've always been pretty but it was hard to pass maverick, that's one of the things I most progress in this difficult season.
Can I get promotion?
I like that you asked me after the previous one because it comes it up with what we were talking.
Now, for example, everyone says that we have accomplished, that club's first season in this league has been a success, that we do in the playoffs from now on should be seen as a prize, and I argue that no, you have to seize the opportunities that this team was second in their group and sixth if we put the classification of all groups of EBA, and the LEB PLATA up four teams, so we're pretty close to the promotion, and I do not think I'd settle for less.
Another thing is if the club can then deal with this promotion or not, but the goal today is to pass three rounds and move up, if not passed even one, it will have been an experience gained for future years, but opportunities have to fight them to death, because you never know whether this institution will be seen again in this special situation.
Do not forget where we are and what level we are talking about economic and sport.
How do you see this first crossing at Ciudad Real?
Then we played against a provincial capital, leading to a social group much higher than ours, a better flag and a very difficult first match, against a team that has a high level, which was sixth in her group, but that is very equal to our level.
I do not think any round is no easier or more difficult than another, are three rounds of equal difficulty, and this is the first, it will be a tough battle, we'll see who plays better their cards and wins the round.
What would you highlight the human group that forms the template?
I am very proud of the players on my team this year, have been able to rise above adversity almost all we have been finding have played with intensity and consistency throughout the competition and they have earned to be where they are.
They have also managed to create a great atmosphere among them a comfortable environment that gives part, and then noticed in practice and in games.
There are great veterans who pull young people are shy to control the clowns, in general, have a great family who have supported inside and outside of basketball and that kind of marriage is very important.
But above all, when you have to put, put them to work hard, work parties and get to the actual level team, the pity is that this has not been achieved in every minute of every game, but if a high percentage of them, but we would not have come this far.
What do you think about the fans?
The Cehegín hobby is very peculiar, almost never worth anything, I think it will not matter which category we will always have a very small mass social at parties.
Now, if I focus on these, our true love, I owe to a great note because they are very faithful and live our deeds.
However, in all my years in the Begastri if I can say one thing about our hobby, has never failed in the final moments of the season, have always filled the hall when we are in ascent phase and I hope this year is Like on Saturday, May 8th we played pass round playoffs against Ciudad Real and I hope we have the support of our people on a day so designated and special equipment.
What would you improve the infrastructure of the club?
I think that all my managers know what we need, what would improve.
I think we need help, helping hands who want to get involved, kids who help us with the basic equipment as delegates, as coaches, as kit-man, as it is.
This is a club that is too high but who lacks hands to cover everything.
This is a club with many ideas and wanting to do things, but can not always stand behind them.
It seems that these days all that had for money, money to hire a trainer, a coach, a decent officer, etc ..., but I think people clubs like us and many others must draw on the goodwill and the desire to help people nearby, the players left to play, to former players who want to contribute, etc ..., but the regional basketball is untenable.
Must be a hobby for a large number of volunteers in our region, not a paid job, even with little money.
A wish for this season:
LEB PLATA able to ascend to our management and fans, to thank its many sleepless nights throughout the year.
My players are already bearing the recognition they have earned and that everyone will remember this season in a few years with a big smile as I remember I spent a few seasons as a player.
