Cehegín City Council, through the Department of Environment has joined the campaign 'Earth Hour' for combating climate change, so on Saturday 27 March (20.30) off the lighting of several of its most emblematic facilities for one hour.
Earth Hour is a global initiative of WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) through which individuals, schools, organizations, companies and governments turn off their lights for 60 minutes to promote action on climate change.
By voting with their light switches, participants in Earth Hour will send a powerful visual message to their leaders, demanding immediate action on climate change.
Earth Hour is the largest climate event in history.
In 2009 there were over four thousand cities in 88 countries, including 200 Spanish cities.
Earth Hour will take place on Saturday, and it is expected that hundreds of millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for an hour, calling for action on climate change.
In Spain, WWF seeks continued support from municipalities, corporations and other institutions, as well as the millions of Spanish people who voted with the switch for Earth Hour 2009.
On the website www.wwf.es / horadelplaneta , interested parties may join in the campaign and find several tools to invite friends and family to join in the fight against climate change.
