The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Cehegín, Jose Soria, today inaugurated the second phase of works round the old town, a new vial equipped with a pedestrian walkway that is open gazebo traffic and provides a shortcut to this iconic area declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
José Ballesta said "this is a performance which, on the one hand, improve communications in the municipality, as it provides direct access to all the neighborhoods that comprise the urban core of the town and, by reinforcing the values of this symbolic environment, encouraging the revitalization of historic and artistic heritage of the municipality. "
This new road, whose works are covered by Special Protection Plan and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Cehegín old, has two lanes and runs along the west side of town.
Has its starting point at Northwest Highway and end next to the Bridge St., on the road that goes to the connecting Cehegín to Caravaca Jumilla.
The Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General of Planning and Housing, has funded 75 percent of the performance, with a total investment of 700,000 euros, while the City has contributed to 25 percent.
This is the second leg of the round, whose first phase ended in 2003, which begins at the Colegio de las Monjas and the river runs between Argos and the steep slope of the hillock where the old town is nestled, remaining perfectly integrated with the surrounding landscape.
Mirador & Promenade
The performance has also entailed the development of the layout of the entire road with the construction of new sidewalks and the installation of street furniture.
It has also planted new vegetation, particularly dozens of mulberry trees and oaks.
In this way, has become a promenade that runs parallel to the round and that is a wonderful vantage point of the river Argos.
