In a simple ceremony charged with emotion, the hall of the House of Culture was quoted Cehegín attended by the nearly three hundred people to celebrate 20 years of solidarity that is developing the Betania Association with people who have or have had substance abuse problems and their families.
One of the main protagonists of the evening was the matador Pepin Liria, who presided over the delivery of honors and awards to individuals and institutions that stand out for their special collaboration with the Association.
Pepin Liria was named an honorary member of the Association in 1998.
His professional career as bullfighting is well known to all, but maybe not everyone knows his role as caring person with social causes.
On 12 October last year, the right ceheginero farewell to the world of bullfighting and he did a very meaningful way, which enhances a person.
His last major performance was a charity run which he devoted entirely to a series of associations with their work fighting for various disadvantaged groups.
Liriano was considered to include the Betania Association between these groups, with a donation entirely assigned to work with users of the Therapeutic Community.
For its part, the president of the Association, Antonio López Ruiz, highlighted the role played in these 20 years by the staff and volunteers who, anonymously, passionate, have conducted a quiet work while loaded with a large dose of understanding and humanity.
All this translates into heat when they feel people need to lose everything in this life.
The event was the venue chosen to present and project the documentary "Twenty years of solidarity."
In it are immortalized different activities with about 700 users who have been through the therapeutic community, and the large number of people in that time have offered their support to the social cause of Bethany.
A vision that, with simplicity, reveals the spirit that has sustained from the outset this project a reality today.
Also held the appointment of Honorary Members (Nicholas of Maya, Mercedes Gómez, Antonio de la Ossa, Jose Garcia and Ana Agudo), and public recognition of groups and institutions that have collaborated and work with Bethany (Parent Community Cehegín Franciscans, Caritas Interparroquial of Jumilla, Association Cehegín Housewives, Murcia Health Service and City of Cehegín).
