The works that will culminate in the consolidation and restoration of the Tower New Street, the old wall that surrounded the city of Cehegín, have already begun.
The restoration work of this new tower, dating from the XII and XIII, have been initiated with the archaeological monitoring of the area, led by the director of the Archaeological Museum of Cehegín, Francisco Peñalver, culminating with the enhancement of this new section of wall that joins the recently opened Torre del Pozo, or Water Thief.
The Councillor of Tourism of the City of Cehegín Francisco in April, this morning visited the works that have a budget of 60,000 euros funded by the North West Tourist Consortium.
According Abril "this is one more step of many that are taking place, to recover our most precious heritage," adding that "this new work is part of a larger project we are working with which is to recover much of the wall surrounding Cehegín in medieval times, which would give the town a major tourist attraction further.
