The coordinator of IU in Cehegín, Juan Fernandez, today demanded the withdrawal of the eight surveillance cameras installed in Murcia Avenue and Gran Via in the town, considering that they constitute "an unwarranted intrusion into the privacy of citizens."
Fernandez stated that the installation of cameras was a measure supported by PP and PSOE to control traffic and prevent vandalism, which, in his view, can be avoided with better coordination between the municipality, Local Police and Guardia Civil.
"The council aims to have the neighbors watched all day, violating our fundamental rights to the image and honor and interfering in the privacy of individuals by means of recordings from the archive will be weeks," he added.
For its part, the spokesman of the President of IU in the Region José María Ortega asked the Government Office not to allow the applications submitted by the municipality of Cehegín to install more video cameras in public spaces in the locality.
