The Governing Council of the Region of Murcia has today declared a Cultural Monument status to the Church of Solitude Cehegín, which held the title of a Historic-Artistic Site in 1982.
All this seems to come as a reward for the restoration work that have been made in the temple, and have returned to bring out all its glory, which have had an investment of more than 700,000 euros, financed by the City of Cehegín The Autonomous Community, the Bishopric and CajaMurcia Foundation.
The Church of Our Lady of Solitude is a temple of basilica, on an east to west.
Located on the hill on which it develops Cehegín Old Town, and in particular, on the side of the west, over the course of the Rio Argos.
Building from the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century, made up of different areas, among which we distinguish the temple, the bell tower of the eighteenth century, the chapel of the Virgin and the home of Santeria.
The interior is divided into three naves separated by pillars that support cross-shaped arches, containing interesting altarpieces and images.
The whole church is decorated with murals and domes in blue.
All columns, like the cornice moldings are imitating polychrome marble paneling.
