As every November 25th, Cehegín has joined its voice to the fight against gender violence, a scourge charged each year in Spain tens of victims.
The House of Culture has hosted an event in which we have proceeded to read the manifesto of the World Day Against Gender Violence by the council of Women and Equality, María del Mar de Béjar, and Sports, Antonio Marín .
In addition, students of all ages zumba classes of the Sports Council have offered an exhibition.
Councilwoman Women and Equality, María del Mar de Béjar, recalled that the United Nations defined gender violence as "any act of violence based on the female gender that has or is likely to result in, physical harm, sexual or psychological for women, including threats of such acts, coercion or deprivation of liberty whether occurring in public or in private life ".
"Gender violence continues," expressed the councilman, who has announced that so far passed in 2014 have been killed in Spain 45 women by their partners or former partners, and 26 were boys or girls motherless.
"In our region so far this year there have been 2,433 calls to 1-1-2 for women victims of domestic violence who ask for help to get out of this situation," the mayor specified.
"The roots of this violence are on the persistent inequality between women and men. The 70% of women experience domestic violence in her lifetime. It's terrible talking numbers of women victims of violence, because each those figures representing a woman who suffers or has been murdered, a shattered family and a trail of unrecoverable pain, "stressed the mayor, who has emphasized the importance of reporting any act of inequality and violence.
"No we normalize or we consent situations where women are mocked or used as mere objects because this contributes to gender violence" has completed María del Mar de Béjar.
