The staff from the municipal parks and gardens, under the Department of Works and Services directed by Juan Antonio Chico, is immersed in the campaign of winter pruning and care of all the trees in the gardens, parks and public spaces in the town .
They include specimens of different varieties, especially mulberries, bananas and melias.
The mulberry trees are pruned early.
Then the large trees whose size and pruning are necessary to use cranes and special equipment.
These pruning the risk of falling further prevents dry branches.
As for the palm trees, the plague of 'red palm weevil' determines the pruning work.
If previously done in spring or early summer, it is better to wait until now falling temperatures, so that the palms are less vulnerable to attack by this insect.
In this sense, the council Works and Services, Juan Antonio Chico, explained that all the palm trees that adorn the public spaces of the town are receiving preventive treatments against this pest in a while with crop protection products, following established protocols.
Also, the mayor pointed out that monitoring the treatment DED is also made, disease of elms in Europe.
In Cehegín, the highest concentration of these trees is given in Murcia Road, at the entrance of the town.
