In order to increase tourism in Cehegín and offer a new way to discover the history and heritage of the city, the Department of Tourism and Alhory Youth Association organized a theatrical night time visits to the Old Town whose first edition will place on Saturday November 29th.
Each visit will have a different theme and setting, placing participants in different historical periods.
They will be featuring some of the most significant figures in local history and narrated by the lamplighter, proven character whose existence is documented and whose job was to turn on and off daily lanterns that lit the main streets of Cehegín.
The Lamplighter knows all the ins and outs of the town and its residents and lead visitors through the corners and the main monuments.
The first route will be entitled 'Fajardos and Carrenos' will be set in the mid-seventeenth century and the plot is based on the long-running dispute that kept these two noble families, the most powerful and influential of the town, for the posts in the Council.
A confrontation that spanned much of the century and ended even murders of several members of both lineages.
The second visit will be held on Saturday, January 24, will focus on 'Legends of the village', being situated action in the early nineteenth century.
The third visit is currently scheduled on March 28 and the theme is yet to be specified.
These dramatized tours add to the wide range of tourist activities Cehegín formed by monthly Craft Market 'The Mesoncico' Plaza del Castillo;
Flea Market Products Second Hand and Antiques bimonthly;
Routes Nature Tourism for places in the municipality;
visits to wineries in the town belonging to the PDO and Bullas Wine School and guided the archaeological site of Begastri during the weekend, which added which will be held in English from Saturday visits , November 8, in this enclave.
The price of the theatrical visits is 3 euros per person and credentials will be available at the Tourist Office Cehegín from Friday November 7th, which also may be reserved by calling the telephone number 968 723550. Each visit will have a capacity limited to 50 people.
