Work on the project of The Garden of El Coso, one of the most ambitious and important actions that the City of Cehegín has done in the Old Quarter of the city, has entered its final stage and will be completed in the coming weeks, during last quarter of the year.
This morning, the mayor, José Soria, Councillor for Works and Services, Juan Antonio Chico, councilors and other government team visited and checked the status of the works.
Juan Antonio Chico explained that the project is 95% and are lower performances as locksmiths, glass or paint.
"The City Council have been keen to finish this work we consider essential to the revaluation of our Old Town," said Councilman Works and Services.
Chico explained that the Old Town was dragging three major problems: the degradation of the El Coso, the poor condition of the rear of the Plaza Vieja and the need to improve the Puntarrón.
"A highly degraded areas have been abandoned, debris and dirt, whose neighbors nobody paid attention. Today we can say that in El Coso and the rear of the Plaza Vieja we are finalizing the works and The Puntarrón soon begin, because we have an allocation of Leader funding for it, "the mayor has expressed Works and Services.
For his part, the mayor expressed his satisfaction with the progress of works.
José Soria explained that the importance of this project is based on that regenerates and adds value to a space that was very run down, integrating it with the rest of the Old Town.
Soria has pointed out that, of the 4.3 million budgeted for these works, the region and other government has provided 3.5 million, and the city 800,000 euros.
"Of those 4.3 million, today only due what has not certified the employer, which are 300,000 euros, which meant that 4 million euros already paid in full", has detailed the mayor.
Also highlighted Soria, 60% of the budget, about 2.5 million euros went to labor, salaries have been paid to many people.
The Mayor explained that the company has requested an extension to complete the work, but it almost certainly will be completed in October.
The City also wants to act on the rear of the houses that give this area to embellish and counteract the visual impact.
The El Coso, located an area of ​​about 7,000 square meters in the Old Town Cehegín was demolished several years ago after being declared bankrupt.
For a time he became a degraded and polluted area for which the City sought a solution in the form of project called 'Oasis', designed by the architects Mónica García and Javier Rubio.
The idea is that the building and the gardens that will coat all vertical surfaces have many pipes and water tanks rainwater and sewage from the top of the Old Town are reused, creating a real microsystem.
Municipal buildings, business incubator, an exhibition hall, a parking and outdoor area with different paths and walkways with lush vegetation and water form a single space.
Under the heading 'The mysterious story of the garden that produces water', the project was presented in Geneva at the prestigious Holcim, achieving the 'Holcim Awards Acknowledgement' to sustainable construction in Europe.
