After five years of cultivation, tomorrow begins the harvesting of the first crop of pistachios in the experimental plot of this crop Cehegín being developed by the Ministry of Agriculture through the Northwest District Agricultural Office.
This morning, the director general of Food Industry and Agricultural Training, Angel Garcia Lidón; Cehegín Mayor Jose Soria, Agriculture and Councilman Joaquin Marin, visited the plot to check in situ the state ripe pistachio and good adaptation to the climatic conditions of the area.

The experimental plot has 24 trees with drip irrigation and yields conclusions that are similar to those of other plots spread over the Northwest Region, are positive.
The harvest estimate is producing about 2,000 kilos per hectare, an amount that would be profitable for the pistachio prices have on the market, according to experts.
Furthermore, according to these technicians, the pistachio is a crop that fits well both in low-lying areas to higher altitudes of around 800-900 meters on, where would a species with less competition from other more sensitive fruit crops to frost.
