Staff from the municipal parks and gardens these days are applying preventive treatment against DED to elms in the municipality, particularly in the road olmeda of Murcia, in the section that runs parallel to the polygon the slaughterhouse, and Ghost Bridge, as explained by the Councillor for Works and Services, Juan Antonio Chico.
DED is a fungal disease that affects the elm and a fungus that spreads and is evident in the look withered and yellow leaves of the tree, which may even die when they dry branches.
This disease has caused the death of millions of copies of elms in Europe and North America in recent decades.
To try to combat this problem, the municipal workers are spraying fungicide now elms that are sprouting in the early spring.
Fungicides are applied using a crane to conveniently reach the tops of the tallest elms and scope, as explained by the Councillor
All elms need this treatment, but the older ones are more vulnerable to the disease, and therefore require special care, as explained by the person in charge of Parks and Gardens.
Treatment will continue in the coming months in order to prevent deterioration from DED in these specimens, some of which are over 60 years old.
