Cehegín City Council is conducting a very important in terms of environmental friendliness and cost savings, as six years ago launched a program to produce natural fertilizers, which are used in all parks and gardens.
The result has been very positive in all this time, since the raw material used are those deciduous leaves fall from the trees, which are expressed in a raft and drenched with water, so they decompose organic matter and serve as a natural fertilizer.
A raft nursery located in Santo Bridge is responsible for hosting this fertilizer, producing several tons of it a year, ensuring a sufficient supply of this and of the same quality as it is permanently controlled by the municipal gardeners.
"Since we started with this system, the City has not had to buy artificial fertilizers or chemicals, as they are the same leaves of trees that will later be used as fertilizer to enrich the soil," said the head of the Gardening services, José Fernández.
