The Community is launching a new Advocacy Center Forest Cehegín (17/05/2011)

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water has launched a new Centre for Defence Cehegín Forest, which joins the network infrastructure that support the actions of prevention and protection against forest fires in the region.

The work has involved an investment of 400,000 euros, financed with EAFRD.

The director general of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, Pablo Fernández, today visited the center with Cehegín Mayor Jose Soria, noting that "has provided the Northwest region of suitable facilities to centralize the work silvicultural and extinction forest fire. "

He also noted that "construction has recovered an ancient forest home."

Its implementation, Fernandez said, "due to the need to insert in the territory of a certain entity infrastructure for coordinating the work of the Brigades Forestry and Environmental Agents."

It is the second facility of this magnitude in the region, after the Sierra de la Pila, which became operational in 2010.

The center is spread over two floors with room stations with maps of the region, a meeting room for staff, other training room, toilets and changing rooms with showers for staff involved in advocacy efforts forest fire.

It also has a kitchen and dining room and a lounge to environmental agents and ground crews.

The exteriors of the center have also been improved with the construction of a parking area and other ancillary facilities.

It is designed to be self-sufficient in energy consumption, through a small photovoltaic and wind power station which ensures at least 80 percent of the energy needed for operation.

Adequate funding

The CEO said that with the launch of this new center, "the region has a fully equipped infrastructure for the beginning of the period of high danger of forest fires, on 1 June."

Among the operation which provides the overall direction of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity Infomur Plan contained a total of 19 brigades Forest Land (Brifor), four rapid intervention brigade (BIR) and two helicopter transport Brigades (Briheli).

The new center will be based Cehegín forest land a brigade with eight specialists of extinction and three environmental officers assigned.

Forest defense centers, concluded the general director, "also support other activities within the territorial area as pest and land stewardship by environmental agents."
