The Mayor of Cehegín, José Rafael Rocamora Gabarrón and the President of Project Abraham, Nuria García Clavijos, signed this morning the renewal of the agreement with the NGO for the collection of footwear and toys, through 24 containers installed on public roads, of which during the year 2017, withdrew almost 50,000 kilos.
Used clothing is considered by law as a waste that must be managed and treated properly, given its polluting potential.
Project Abraham destines this clothes to different uses.
Part of which is in better condition is prepared to be distributed in the regional wardrobe that the NGO manages, to facilitate access to clothing for families with economic difficulties.
Another part is commercialized through the two stores that Proyecto Abraham keeps open to the public.
The part of clothing, footwear and toys not directly reusable, is taken to specialized recycling industries where it has other uses, such as the manufacture of new products from raw materials (frayed and others), which prevents this clothes and other waste ends without any treatment in landfills.
Another part of the clothing and footwear, is used in the workshops and courses that the NGO imparts, on sewing and repair of garments and on shoe repair, thus also fulfilling a training function.
Project Abraham, focuses its activity on social action both in the field of socio-labor insertion and care for people at risk of exclusion.
A good part of the workers who collect garment containers and other tasks of the Association are people at risk of social and labor exclusion, thus obtaining an opportunity for integration through work.
Throughout the year, 46 people worked in this association, of which 20% are excluded.
Proyecto Abraham works in collaboration with the Social Services of Cehegín, for the realization of courses and workshops aimed at improving the possibilities of access to the labor market for people with low employability profiles, such as the Basic Informatics Workshop with Employment Orientation, it has just been given and of which 17 people of the municipality have benefited.
