This action will benefit the more than 1,800,000 annual trips that this route of the regional network supports
The Ministry of the Presidency and Development will improve the access to the main farms dedicated to the cultivation of cut flower of Cehegín with the adaptation of an intersection on the RM-714 road with the Cañada García road, in the hamlet of Canara.
This was explained today by the general secretary of the Ministry of the Presidency and Development, Yolanda Muñoz, accompanied by the mayor of Cehegín, José Rafael Rocamora, during the presentation of the work to 40 local businessmen.
Yolanda Muñoz stressed that the Community will invest about 900,000 euros in this work, which consists of the replacement of access from the road to the rural road, currently cut off due to the dangerous nature of the left turns at that point.
"We will provide the new intersection with precise safety conditions, with adequate acceleration and deceleration lanes, as well as other turnstiles on the left for the waiting and incorporation of vehicles," said the general secretary, who explained that they are also ordered the accesses to the quarries that exist in the opposite margin of the intersection, which are endowed with central waiting lanes and speed change wedges.
Yolanda Muñoz explained that this stretch of road has a high intensity of traffic, so the action "will benefit more than 1,800,000 annual trips through this route of the regional network, of which 292,000 are heavy vehicles."
He added that "the improvement of visibility and turns has been the priority objective of the project".
This work has led to the signing of an agreement between the Autonomous Administration and the local authority for the expropriation of the land that the action requires.
Under the agreement, the City Council of Cehegín assumes the cost of the expropriation of land (16,000 euros), which will be managed by the Directorate General of Roads, while the Ministry of Presidency and Development will be responsible for the execution of the new intersection .
Characteristics of the work
Yolanda Muñoz specified that the intersection that has been projected is of type T, and will be on the left bank of the RM-714 highway, at the height of the kilometer point 57.7, and from it the movements will be channeled towards the municipal road that connects with the place of Cañada García.
The crossing will have central waiting and incorporation lanes that canalize the movements of left turn of the vehicles of the RM-714, coming from Calasparra and in direction towards Cañada García, as well as the vehicles coming from Cañada García that want to go towards Caravaca de la Cruz by RM-714.
As for the movements of turns to the right, the construction of speed change lanes parallel to the main road has been planned.
In addition, the planned intersection will have an island that will allow the change of direction.
The planned roadway of the RM-714 highway will consist of two lanes of traffic and a central lane of storage, waiting and incorporation.
External verges will also be built on the edges of the road.
The project also contemplates the conditioning of the access to a quarry located in the RM-714, at the height of the kilometer point 58.8.
Like the previous intersection, it will be of type T, but it will not have the possibility of making turns to the left, although it will be equipped with speed change wedges that allow vehicles to access the quarry.
To allow the left turn of the vehicles coming from the Quarry and to be directed towards Calasparra, a turning branch has been projected.
Likewise, the extension of an existing underground bridge is contemplated, which crosses below the RM-714 highway and which serves as a passage to the Barranco de Las Tablas.
