The Councils of Health and Environment of the City Council, led by Antonia Fernandez and Maria Jose Martinez, respectively, have launched an information campaign to encourage adoption of pets.
Especially, these Christmas days, in which increases the purchase of puppies to give away.
The Ediles have stated that "there are a lot of abandoned animals that need a home. We have to raise awareness and, if we want a pet next to us, it is necessary that, before buying, adopt."
To this end, a campaign has been launched that publicizes the alternative of adopting abandoned animals in the municipality through wedges on local radio, as well as through the corporate media of the City Council, digital media and social networks
One of these messages has the following text: "If you want to have a pet, remember: Adopt, do not buy Thousands of dogs and cats expect to be rescued in the streets, kennels and shelters. It is a council of the Department of Environment and Health Cehegín City Council.
We recall that Spain is at the top of the European countries with the highest rate of abandonment of pets.
In countries like Switzerland, Germany, Holland or Sweden the abandonment of animals is scarcely existent, whereas in our country the figure reaches the 300,000 animals abandoned each year.
