More than sixty years ago I left my town Cehegín, a time that has not made me forget it;
On the contrary, every day I remember him and I miss him with more affection.
For this same love that I profess to share with someone who has the goodness to read me, an idea that has been around for some time: that of getting my people officially called "Cehegín de las Maravillas", the name of the Virgin that was Declared our great employer on 15-IX of 1864, as it appears in the capitulary report of the city council of Cehegín.
It is a beautiful polychrome image of the thirteenth century, the work of the eminent Neapolitan sculptor Nicola de Fumo, who for its recognized merits would be worth the appointment of 'Sculptor of the King', granted by Felipe V.
The Cardinal Patriarch of the Indies, Carlos de Borja Centellas and Ponce de León, was the first to promote the cult of Our Lady of the Wonders of Cehegín.
And Francisco Salzillo carved his first Virgin of the Wonders for the Church of San Pedro de Murcia, inspired by the beauty of his homonymous Virgin Neapolitan Ceheginera, to which our famous poet Fray Fermin Maria sang.
"It's called Wonders,
And indeed it is,
Who does not believe it,
Come to Cehegín if you want,
To come and see her. "
Thus, on the occasion of the 2017 Jubilar de la Stma. And Vera Cruz de Caravaca, all those pilgrims who make the journey will find that in their last stage, on their way through our beloved Cehegín de las Maravillas, Receive them the Wonderful Mother, who will help them achieve their final goal with a good won and Holy Jubilee.
