As was made public last March, the Mayor of Cehegín, signed an agreement with the Foundation for Sustainable Development, an entity whose purpose, among others, education, research, training, awareness etc, values environmental and ecological as well as the use and management of renewable energy resources, energy saving and efficiency, rational water use and conservation of biodiversity, among others.
For its development, the first two meetings with informal groups in the municipality for the content of different programs that want to develop have taken place.
Ismael Abellán García, Councillor for Energy Efficiency and Maria Jose Martinez Verdugo, Councillor of Agriculture, have been responsible for representing the City in these two meetings, the first led to leadership positions of all schools in the municipality, and the other representatives of the tenements and the agricultural world.
In both responsible for making the presentations was Emilio Ballester, president of the Foundation for Sustainable Development.

The second, addressed to the tenements and the world of agriculture, is called Riega with the Sun, "a flagship program that the Foundation is currently developing, and is based on energy self-sufficiency through the use of renewable energy both for the self-production of electricity and for irrigation of the field, also in the same way.
