Councilmember Equality of the City of Cehegín, Antonia Fernández Nieto, has reported that the International Day today, May 17, takes place against Homophobia.
For this reason, as stated by the mayor, "I want to express, from the position I flaunt my abhorrence to all that expression of hatred, rejection or discrimination against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
This day is to denounce discrimination against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals, and thus advance their rights worldwide.
We remember the constitutional right to non-discrimination on grounds of gender, without having to suffer for it any assault on their dignity or physical or moral integrity. "
The Councillor also recalled the Declaration, which was adopted by the last Council of Ministers last May 13 in which, in some of its parts, it is recalled that "on the other hand, and as highlighted by the report of Ministry of Interior on incidents involving hate crimes in Spain in 2015, sexual orientation and gender identity remain one of the main motivations of registered hate crimes.
It therefore must also redouble efforts in the field of prevention and prosecution through the criminal law. "
