The construction of a roundabout at the intersection of the Ronda Este with the Chaparral highway, the improvement of accessibility in the Ginés Ibáñez park, the adaptation of the sports hall and sports court with artificial grass and arrangements in the exterior areas of the 'Loli de Gea pavilion 'are some of the interventions that will be carried out in this plan. The Mayor of Cehegín, Alicia del Amor, together with the General Director of Local Administration, Francisco Abril have presented the different works that will be carried out in the new Municipal Works and Services Plan 2020-2021.
The First Deputy Mayor, Jerónimo Moya, and the Councilor for Works and Services, Pedro Lorencio, were also present. This Plan has a total investment of 350,000 thousand euros, of which 314,000 thousand are contributed by the Autonomous Community, and 36,000 thousand by the City Council of Cehegín. "A plan, explained the Mayor, which includes four essential improvements for our town and with which we are going to respond to the real needs of all Cehegineros, diversifying the works to expand the range of solutions as well as that of construction companies participants in the projects ". Francisco Abril, for his part, has stated that "these are actions that have a clear objective: to improve the quality of life of Cehegineros and the provision of essential services that they use in their day-to-day, such as sports, leisure or infrastructure facilities" . In this way, he stressed that "the new roundabout will play a fundamental role in increasing road safety, since there have been several accidents in that area." In this area, known as the 'hammer crossing', the land will be refurbished with a 1900 m2 demolition, for the subsequent creation of a roundabout, thus responding to a project that has been in demand for years and is in dire need of roads. This work will serve to organize traffic in the area and make it safer.
It is currently a dangerous intersection with an increasing intensity of traffic.
In this way, you will gain security both for road traffic and for pedestrians that circulate through it. With regard to the works at the Loli de Gea Sports Center, it is a question of making use of the esplanade that remained after the collapse of the pavilion, and of preparing for sports the new facilities that were built with funds from the Works Plan and Services 2018-19.
In this esplanade an artificial grass court will be enabled. In addition, the pavilion will be provided with accessibility, the exterior areas will be arranged and its sports hall will be adapted. The last of the projects is to improve the accessibility of the central Ginés Ibáñez Park, for the benefit of people with reduced mobility. In it, the esplanade where the Kiosk is currently located will also be paved, which is equipped with gravel, and the side walk that gives access to the children's play area, improving accessibility and traffic through these areas. A ramp will also be installed in the southern zone, to enable the park in that accessibility zone, always necessary and essential now that the market facilities are located there, with a very good response. Some works, the Mayor concluded that "there are four necessary interventions in our basic infrastructure and, most important of all, they have a general vision so that they can be enjoyed and redound to the benefit of all Cehegineros".
