Cehegín City Council suspends the celebration of the Fair and Festivities 2020 in honor of its Patron Saint, the Virgin of Wonders, which are traditionally held from September 8 to 14, so as not to jeopardize the health of citizens and avoid possible outbreaks of Covid 19, as well as in the districts and neighborhoods, whose acts took place in this summer season.
The suspension and prohibition to hold parties in our municipal area extends in principle until October 31, 2020, unless the situation due to the Covid19 crisis indicates another circumstance different from the current one.Cehegín joins this way to other towns in the Murcia region that have also decided to suspend their major festivals. This was announced this morning at a press conference by the Mayor of Cehegín, Alicia del Amor, the First Deputy Mayor, Jerónimo Moya, as well as the Councilor for Celebrations, Juan Martínez, where they explained that this suspension has the main objective of not put at risk the health of citizens and avoid crowds of people that lead to the possibility of outbreaks of the disease.“As we know, the mayor explained, the epidemiological situation is complicated, as the health authorities have indicated, and that is why we suspend any festive event in the general interest.
We must avoid any type of agglomeration or massive concentration of people, which could lead to public health problems derived from these possible concentrations and that would lead us to take a step backwards in the fight against the coronavirus.
It is the responsibility of this City Council and mine as Mayor to preserve the health of all Ceheginers above all else ”."Any ceheginero or ceheginera, both those who reside here and those who visit us in this summer season, know what the festivities in honor of the Virgen de las Maravillas mean and that this year they are not celebrated is, for all, a pain immense but, evidently, in the same way that happens in any of our districts, public health comes first and all Ceheginers with the City Council at the head we have to be responsible, since, as much as our hearts have been asking us to maintain a thread of hope to be able to celebrate our holidays, with the situation like this, it is not possible ”.“I want, therefore, to continue explaining, at this time, above all, to have words of remembrance and thanks to the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Wonders, which is one of our references in these celebrations that we dedicate exclusively in honor of our Mother.
""From the Government team, we have wanted to give the summer a certain normality, scheduling some activities, recreational and sports, but totally controlled and always following the strict rules set by the health authorities.
And that is why the City Council does not close the door for religious acts to be carried out on different festivities, with the rules established for acts in places of worship; but the parties in their usual format are suspended, so I want to appeal to everyone's responsibility, avoiding private gatherings in places such as peñas or barracks, so I urge that there be no unofficial or covert parties of groups of people.
”“Finally, I appeal to the individual responsibility of each one, that we be aware that the virus has not disappeared, that it is still there, and that is why we have to use a mask, have social distancing and not hold mass meetings that could lead to a regrowth ”."It is a very difficult time for me and for this city council, but I think everyone understands us when making this decision."Likewise, the first deputy mayor, Jerónimo Moya, explained that the budget allocated for this year's festivities will serve to reinforce other items in which social work is underway and to encourage the productive fabric of our town, as well as to face those invoices that are pending payment from the previous year that have not yet been paid.
