The mayor of Cehegín, Alicia del Amor, attended yesterday the meeting of the Regional Council of Local Cooperation, of which she is a member, a consultative organ of collaboration between the regional Administration and the municipalities
In it it was explained that the regional government allocates 75,544,026 euros this year to the municipalities to manage it directly in the realization of improvement and conditioning works and to finance the provision of essential services in the municipalities.
These more than 75 million euros, once the effect of the contribution to finance the North-South coastal agreement and the variant of Sangonera la Verde that was included in the 2019 budgets has been exceeded, represent 3.5 million euros more than last year, which in turn represents a growth of more than 4 percent compared to 2019.
This amount, however, refers only to the subsidies that the Community gives to the municipalities to manage it directly, but it is multiplied by five if the investments made by the regional government in the construction, improvement or conditioning of infrastructures such as educational or health centers or roads.
"Despite the shortcomings and the suffocation to which the autonomous financing system has been subject to us for more than 10 years, our commitment to the municipalities and our conviction in the advantages of this proximity policy lead us to increase subsidies this year that we dedicate to the city councils to undertake actions regarding employment, social policy or citizen security, "said the Minister of the Presidency and the Treasury.
During the meeting, attended by representatives of the municipalities of the Region and other departments of the regional government, some issues of special importance to local authorities were analyzed, such as the proposal for distribution of the amounts that municipalities will receive through of the Works and Services Plan and the Pedanías Plan.
The Minister of the Presidency and Finance stressed that it is a total of 18.4 million euros "that will allow the 45 municipalities of the Region to carry out proximity works and finance services and infrastructure during the years 2020 and 2021."
For this year, in particular, 6 million euros will be allocated for proximity works in the 41 municipalities with less than 50,000 inhabitants through the Works and Services Plan that will benefit more than 550,000 inhabitants of the Region;
2 million euros for the Plan of Pedanías, destined in this occasion to the municipalities of more than 50,000 inhabitants and 1.2 million euros for the Fund of Financing of the local corporations of less than 5,000 inhabitants.
Specifically, Cehegín, which is framed in this Plan, will receive 314,332 euros in the POS 2020-2021.
To this we must add 1.5 million euros to meet the payment of the services of the Firefighting and Rescue Consortium in the municipalities of less than 20,000 inhabitants.
A Government with a municipalist vocation
"These instruments are a reflection of the strong municipalist vocation of this Government, since they allow us to undertake improvements in equipment and infrastructure that would suppose an economic overexertion to the town halls, as an arrangement of streets, of public spaces, arrangements of roads and highways, improvements in the lighting, air conditioning works or construction works and improvement of water supply and sanitation networks, all actions that directly affect the improvement of the well-being of neighbors, "said Javier Celdrán.
During the previous edition (2018-19), this plan allowed to execute a total of 91 actions that helped generate more than 300 jobs, which also represents an important boost to employment and economic development at the local level.
