"D.
Cristóbal Robles Jaén was elected in 1979 and, therefore, treasures, for all of us, for all citizens, those universal values that emanate from our constitutional text.
The freedom to democratically choose the person who governs us and political plurality.
Those values that make us freer and that have consolidated our democracy until we reach the place where we are. â€
We remember that Cristóbal Robles Jaén, then a teacher in Basic General Education, a member of the Democratic Center Union, was the first mayor of the democratic period in Cehegín, which emerged after the 1979 elections. He took office as mayor on April 14, 1979 and held the position until after submitting his resignation he was replaced by Manuel Soria García, also a member of the Democratic Center Union, on October 9, 1982.
In these early years of the Cehegín Democratic Transition, it still faced a significant lack of infrastructure at the urban level.
One of the first actions that were carried out was the systematic asphalting of streets on those roads that were not yet paved, with the help of the Provincial Plans.
Urbanizations of streets are realized, like those of the district of San Cristóbal, Plaza de Toros, Gran Vía, Plaza de Sor Catalina Campos etc.
and the electrification of rural places continued, as well as the public lighting in districts.
Also in the year 1980 the Hogar del Pensionista is projected, an idea that came from the first project elaborated in the year 1.977 and that would be completed in the middle of the 80s in a farm on the Cuesta del Parador, owned by the Hospital de la Real Piety.
In the year 1980 the Juan Carlos I Municipal Park is built, the Municipal Archaeological Museum becomes an extension of the Murcia Provincial, in what de facto was its foundation.
And the Old Town of Cehegín is declared as Historic Artistic heritage in 1982.
