The mayor of Cehegín, Alicia del Amor, has announced that the ceheginero José Juan López Espín will be the preacher of the Cehegín Festivities in honor of the Virgen de las Maravillas, which will be held from 8 to 14 September.

The professor and vice chancellor of Students and Coordination of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche will read the proclamation on Saturday August 31 in the Camelot Room.

The appointment of López Espín as preacher of the festivities of Cehegín recognizes the connection he has had with this town.

José Juan López Espín has a degree in mathematics, computer systems engineering and journalism.

In addition, he has two master's degrees, both on computation, and a doctorate in computational statistics.

Since 2009, he has been researching in supercomputing and artificial intelligence, specifically in algorithms that find mathematical models for medical problems, collaborating with the Reina Sofia University General Hospital and the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital.

In parallel, López Espín directs the interuniversity research group Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) -Universidad de Murcia (UMU), composed of a multidisciplinary team of mathematicians, computer scientists and doctors, with great impact in international publications, and collaborating with universities of prestige such as Harvard (USA) or the University of Lille (France).

Recently, José Juan López Espín has been appointed vice chancellor of Students and Coordination of the UMH.

Among the different functions assumed in this academic institution are the coordination of activities related to students, the communication of the University and the coordination of the various vice-rectorates.

Previously, Professor López Espín has directed the Communication Area of ​​the University, creating and consolidating projects such as the scientific dissemination magazine UMH Sapiens, university television, institutional social networks or the UMH store.
