The formation registers initiatives in the City council of Cehegín, the Regional Assembly and the Congress of the Deputies to reactivate the sector, key for the economic recovery of the Northwest
"It is a sector that fixes population and creates employment in especially sensitive areas, such as the Northwest and the Altiplano," says local spokesman Jerónimo Moya
Citizens has mobilized at all institutional levels to promote a Promotion and Promotion Plan for the marble and natural stone sector of the Region.
The formation has already registered both motions in the City Council of Cehegín and the Regional Assembly for this purpose as a Proposition No of Law in the Congress of Deputies, as explained by orange spokesman in Cehegín, Jerónimo Moya.
"We are talking about a sector consisting mainly of SMEs of up to a hundred workers, which also represent an important factor for employment and fixing the territory of the population in regions such as the Northwest and the Altiplano," said the mayor.
The percentage of jobs related to mining production is 28.5% in the Altiplano and 15.5% in the case of the Northwest, a percentage that increases especially in Cehegín, where the Technological Center of Marble and Stone is also located.
The plan that promotes Citizens must also include lines of financing for the restructuring of the debts that the companies of the sector generated to survive the crisis.
Both the motions and the national NLP also include the promotion of the use of natural stone from the Region in public works and the activation of a work table in which representatives of the sector and the Regional Government are present to evaluate the result of the previous Momentum plan, which started in 2009.
The sector has accentuated in recent years weaknesses such as the large size of the companies that make it up, "a factor that hinders its ability to innovate and internationalization, just at a time when competition is intensifying from Italy, its 'natural' competitor , but also from emerging producers such as China and India, "said Moya, who also lamented that companies" have not been able to reorient production until the final product is manufactured ".
"We want to give marble and natural stone an impulse from the institutions to improve its internationalization and open lines of financing specific to the sector, in addition to the necessary conclusion of the legislative adaptations that included the plan to boost the sector of 2009", added the councilor of Citizens, who already transmitted to the heads of the Technological Center of Marble in a meeting on 19 the contents of this plan, "in which we have been working in recent months."
