The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure invests a total of 497,830 euros in improving access to the main farms dedicated to the cultivation of cut flowers and the quarries of Cehegín with the adequacy of an intersection on the RM-714 road with the Cañada road García, in the hamlet of Canara.
The action is "a commitment of the regional government to improve the safety of the nearly 5,000 drivers who travel daily in this way," said counselor Patricio Valverde during the visit he made on the occasion of the start of the work, which will also benefit 800 heavy vehicles coming mainly from the cehegineras districts of Canara, El Campillo and La Pilá.
The works consist in the replacement of the access from the road to the rural road, currently cut due to the dangerousness of the turns to the left at the height of the kilometer point.
From the new intersection the movements will be channeled towards the municipal road that connects with the Cañada García site.
"We will improve the visibility and the turns in this crossing," said the counselor, who indicated that the round will have the exact safety conditions, with adequate acceleration and deceleration lanes, as well as other centers of rotation to the left for the wait and incorporation of vehicles.
This work has led to the signing of an agreement between the Autonomous Administration and the local authority for the expropriation of the land that the action requires.
Under the agreement, the City Council of Cehegín assumed the cost of the expropriation of land (16,000 euros), which was managed by the Ministry, which in turn builds the new intersection.
Characteristics of the work
The intersection that has been planned is of type T, and will have central waiting and incorporation lanes that channel the left-hand turning movements of the RM-714 vehicles, coming from Calasparra and in the direction of Cañada García, as well as the vehicles coming from Cañada García that want to go to Caravaca de la Cruz by the RM-714.
As for the movements of turns to the right, the construction of speed change lanes parallel to the main road has been planned.
In addition, the planned intersection will have an island that will allow the change of direction.
The planned roadway of the RM-714 highway will consist of two traffic lanes and a central lane of storage, waiting and incorporation.
External verges will also be built on the edges of the road.
The project also contemplates the conditioning of the access to a quarry located in the RM-714, at the height of the kilometer point 58.8.
Like the previous intersection, it will be of type T, but it will not have the possibility of making turns to the left, although it will be equipped with speed change wedges that allow vehicles to access the quarry.
To allow the left turn of the vehicles coming from the Quarry and to be directed towards Calasparra, a turning branch has been projected.
