The Autonomous Community launches the declaration of the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) of Cartagena as 'Action of Regional Interest', in order to accelerate its construction and immediately meet the economic and productive needs of Cartagena and its region.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, announced today, during the meeting of the table of the ZAL of Cartagena, the beginning of the processing, which will be published this week in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM).
"The ZAL of Cartagena is a strategic and vital infrastructure for the Region of Murcia for its great contribution to progress, economic development and the welfare of all," said Valverde, adding that its implementation will boost economic activity, employment and competitiveness of companies linked to logistics activity and rail and port intermodality.
It is a priority logistics node of the Trans-European Transport Network due to its link to the Port of Cartagena, its location in one of the industrial centers with the highest concentration of companies in the region (Los Camachos, Escombreras, Cabezo Beaza, among others), its access to the high capacity road network and its connection with the Mediterranean Railway Corridor.
Valverde said that given the potential of the ZAL, which is projected on an unscheduled urbanizable land, according to the current General Plan, "it is necessary to have an urban tool that helps us to develop the full potential of the ZAL with a development strategy." , urbanization and adequate management ".
The 'Action of Regional Interest', he stressed, "allows us to establish a framework of urban development that drives all the infrastructures and connections that allow us to respond to the logistic activity linked to rail and port transport and achieve the greatest success of the ZAL of Cartagena. "
It is a key instrument that delimits the entire area destined to the ZAL of Cartagena and details the urban actions and investments to integrate the logistics node and the Intermodal Terminal.
In this way, it orders, plans and executes the implementation and development of all infrastructures, rail and road connections and services to vehicles, companies and people linked to the logistics node.
Accelerates construction deadlines
Valverde stressed that this statement "will speed up its global urban development and accelerate the construction of the ZAL, since it will set the requirements for economic activities can be installed on their land, located in the Industrial Park of Los Camachos.
The ZAL will be developed in phases: The first involves the transfer of the Franco Warehouse and the Integrated Transport Center of Cartagena to the Industrial Area of ​​Los Camachos.
Thus, the Franco Deposit Consortium and the Info agreed to the transfer to increase and improve their services, after receiving the economic offers of the Port of Cartagena for the acquisition of their current land and that will allow the construction of the Transportation Center and the Franco Warehouse.
Also, the Minister of Development said that projects are already being drafted, which are co-financed at 50 percent with European funds and the regional government and the Port Authority, for which 1.3 million funds are available from the mechanism 'Connect Europe '(Connecting Europe Facility, CEF) of the European Union.
