The PSOE achieves unanimity in the Regional Assembly for the Government to allocate an economic endowment to the construction of a Municipal Pavilion in Cehegín (03/05/2018)

The mayor of Cehegín, José Rafa Rocamora, stressed the importance of building this Pavilion for the sport of the municipality, because currently the teams are forced to train in Calasparra

The Commission of Education has unanimously approved a joint motion, promoted by the Socialist Parliamentary Group, so that the Regional Government contributes financially to the construction of a new Municipal Pavilion in Cehegín, since the former Loli de Gea Sports Center was shaved as a result of the temporary cold and snow occurred in January 2017.

After the collapse of the roof and the serious damage caused by this structure, the Municipal Corporation rebuilt the heated pool last year and created several multipurpose rooms for physical exercise.

However, current regulations do not allow the lifting of the Sports Pavilion in the same location for security reasons, which is why the City Council has set up a space in the El Almarjal area to carry out a new construction.

Socialist Spokesman Joaquin Lopez, have expressed their satisfaction with the agreement reached, and expects the regional executive to fulfill the mandate of the Assembly so that the residents of this municipality can enjoy the new sports hall as soon as possible.

To that end, it has committed to follow-up so that this allocation is executed from the 2018 and 2019 budgets.

The regional deputy Choni Ludeña, who has promoted this motion, has specified that this is a very important issue for the development of sport in the municipality, whose basketball teams and rhythmic gymnastics are forced to train in Calasparra. "He stressed that this municipality has the right to enjoy sports facilities under conditions of equality that the rest of the region, even more so when it lacks the same due to supervening causes.

For its part, the mayor José Rafa Rocamora, has reported that this construction is budgeted at 1,400,000 euros, of which the City will contribute 800,000 making a great effort given their limited resources.

Therefore, it is necessary that the Regional Government assume the investment of the remaining 600,000 euros, something that in his opinion "is perfectly acceptable, given the importance that this sport infrastructure has for the municipality"

Also explained that the City Council has land for the construction of the new sports center, as well as a fund has complained that "the regional government has not assumed any of the requests made by the City throughout this term."

"But the regional government has denied without any explanation the request for a small investment to support its construction."

Rocamora recalled that the City Council asked the Ministry of Finance to authorize a loan of 1.3 million euros to carry out the work, something that was denied due to the indebtedness that the municipality inherited from the previous corporation.

Therefore, "the commitment of the Government of the PP to face this project is essential given the difficult economic-financial situation that the town is going through".

In this regard, he recalled that there is a contingency fund and other budget items to mitigate damages in catastrophic and exceptional situations in our region, "which can be used to cover these damages, at least partially," he concluded.
